1 in 12 young adults in Newcastle care for a family member or a close friend.
The majority of young adult carers receive little, or no support and in fact, caring for a loved one can take up a considerable amount of time and energy, both physically and emotionally for young carers.
That’s exactly why Newcastle Carers launched their new #WeCareToo advertising campaign with Clear Channel; raising awareness about the advice and support in Newcastle that’s available for young adult carers. This fantastic Charity provides an incredible amount of information and assistance to unpaid adult carers in the local area and, using Clear Channel’s Out-of-Home advertisement sites, were able to share their message with thousands of people in Newcastle.
However, this powerful campaign featured a very heart-warming, special element.
The young carers that you can see were heavily involved in creating this powerful campaign and were inspired to run this campaign due to their own personal experiences with caring without support.
In fact, the young carers interviewed and selected the design agency, Sail Creative and worked with the agency on the design for the Outdoor advertisement sites in Newcastle that amplified the #WeCareToo message.
Young adult carer, Georgia, 20 spoke about the difficultly of caring without support;
“For a long time I didn’t realise that I was a carer, I didn’t realise that there was support out there for me. I am hoping that this campaign will help other people that are looking after a family or a friend with an illness or disability to get support for themselves. I want to encourage anone who has a caring role to contact Newcastle Carers, they can really help.”
The Clear Channel Out-of Home advertising campaign reached thousands of local people in the Newcastle area and generated significant PR for Newcastle Carers and their incredible message. This story received covered by a number of news channels, including ITV Tyne & Tees and BBC Radio Newcastle. You can see the watch the ITV interview with Newcastle Carers here
